A helping hand
for expecting mothers with GD
Tracking blood glucose levels, weight, and food intake for women with gestational diabetes, is the gateway for a happier and healthier mother and child. Glo strives to bring ease to mothers daily monitoring routine and make it easy to share and connect to their doctor.

Gestational diabetes,
diabetes developed during pregnancy effect 10% of expectant mothers.
Mismanagement of GD can be dangerous for both mother and child in the short and long term.
A new face to glucose testing
The combination of lancet and meter reduces steps in the process.

Upon picking up, Glo acts as a small warming device, heating the user's hands, reducing the pain of the lancet prick.

Testing Glucose Levels
Managing diabetes requires users to first use a lancet to prick their finger to draw blood; the blood is then touched to a testing strip attached to a meter that then provides a read-out of the results.

The results are documented either through a tracking application or written down on a chart.
Observations
Summary
Lancet Device
Simple is better- The simplicity of the lancet device and the mechanism that makes it work makes the process seem less intimidating, however:
-
Unclear depth symbols
-
Wobbly and light (cheap)
-
Lack of intention with needle cartridge holder
-
Flat top where the needle comes out
Meter
Case
The meter has too many functions and not enough indication of what they do.
-
Switching between the lancet device and the meter let clunky, as a first time user, the prep for the testing process was unclear
-
The complexity of the interface left it hard to perform the basic function of the device- test the blood sample
-
The design of the strip didn’t provide any indication of where to put the blood sample
The case had a specific spot for the test strips, lancet, and meter. Deficits were:
-
Lack of consideration for other tools
-
Unstructured and floppy
-
Poor use of space
-
No consideration of how it lives in the home
The above made for unclear usage and contributes to the scary element of poking yourself.
These qualities made it challenging to use the device and made the transition from lancet to meter difficult.
