Every Day Holds The
Possibility For Adventure
Design Intent
Day pack for the urban explorer with built in flexibility.
Luggage with Detachable Bag
Some modular luggage has detachable bags that allow travelers to reduce what they need to carry while also adding utility and compactness.
Function Inspiration
Instead of a detachable section on a suitcase, Go Forth Sling Pack offers an attachable section, which allows for more to be carried when more is needed.
Visual Language
The orange color of the bag and upcycled USPS envelope material used for the attachable section are inspired by the visual constants in SF.
Materials Found in the Urban Landscape
Urban cities often are strewn with discarded items, trash, furniture, etc., with enough meandering; sometimes, a useful item can be found and used or repurposed.
Urban Colors
Orange, the color of construction, warning, and utility, is ever-present in morphing city landscapes that are continually being built up or reconfigured.
Ideation
Details in the pack's design such as the attachment of the extra section and double zipper access were tested and adjusted in physical model iterations.
Sizing Considerations
Below is a sample of everyday items one would want to carry on their person when venturing out for the day.
Water bottles vary in height, with an average being 10". The bottle is the longest item and was used to determine the overall length and width of the design.
Process
I made two prototypes of the bag to test out if the sizing was correct and figure out and perfect the connection mechanism.
Final Bag
Bag without the attachable section.
Packing
Demonstration of how the bag can be packed as well as the maximum quantity of items that can fit.
Final Bag With Attachable Section
The attachable bag halfway zips onto the main body of the bag, and uses two clips to secure it on the non-zipped side.
Attaching The Bag
Demonstration of how the attachable bag connects to the main pack.
